Depends on your definition of "sound". Dictionary.com defines it as
"the sensation produced by stimulation of the organs of hearing by vibrations transmitted through the air or other medium." So, no. Since there is no sensation being detected by the organs of hearing, or the ears, it does not make a sound. However, it does produce the vibrations that make sound, so that is not to say that the tree is completely silent when it falls just because no one is around to hear it. |

There is no need to ask rhetorical cliched questions.

Yeah... sound waves travel regardless of the presence of humans or lack thereof... So physics would say yeah OF COURSE OR COURSE OF COURSE I know this is a famous question, but this aspect of reality is not subjective, the tree will make a sound whether theres peeps there or not, maybe the question should be "a tree falls in the forest and no one is around, does anyone hear it" but that would make the answer even more blatant.

Without someone or something to "hear" the sound waves they are only the potential for sound.

If fact the answer is NO...
If your there to hear the tree fall it will make a sound and you could be able to identify it... But obviously there is nobody around to identify the sound so its not a sound at all in fact...it is a noise Sound is something identifiable Noise is unidentifiable sound that is the real answer to this age old question...i hope i helped |
